General Information: Mamey Sapote is an ancient pre-Hispanic fruit found throughout the tropical regions of Mexico, Central, and South America. This medium to large fruit has a round, oval, or oblong shape, often featuring tapered, pointed ends. The skin is thick and semi-rough, varying in color from light to dark brown, and has a textured, scruffy feel akin to sandpaper. Beneath the skin, the flesh showcases beautiful hues ranging from orange and red to salmon, offering a soft, creamy, and dense texture with a fine, smooth consistency and a faint squash-like scent. Each fruit typically contains 1 to 4 glossy black-brown elliptical seeds nestled in the center of the flesh. Mamey Sapote is best enjoyed when fully ripe, yielding slightly to pressure when squeezed.
