General Information: Bor-Thekera, or Garcinia pedunculata, is a semi-wild evergreen tree related to the purple mangosteen found in Northeast India. The fluted trunk bears small spreading branches. The smooth, ring-shaped, golden or orange-yellow fruit has a delicious interior with edible arils. Ripe fruits can be cooked or eaten fresh, and sun-dried slices are preserved for later use.
Cultivation Information: The Malabar Tamarind takes 8-10 years to bloom and fruit, requiring moderate upkeep.
